I installed a new trim kit for my single handle delta tub faucet. However, when removing the old one I removed the plastic mounting thing that is behind the wall but in front of the valve. So now when I screw on my new trim it warps the shower surround. Can I get a replacement plastic thing? or what can I do? Any help is much appreciated

It sounds like you have removed the rough in plaster guard, also used as a backer when installing the valve on fiberglass walls. I would call delta and have them send you the part directly. You will most likely need to order it anyplace you go.
Call 1-800-345-DELTA(3358)
between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.(CST), Monday through Saturday.
Another option would be to check with local big box stores or plumbing houses to see if they have one in a returned valve.

you can order one from delta. but in the mean time
put 2 peices of scrap wood like 3/4 wide but longer than the hole[ you will have to stick 1 end in 1st then thread it in]
place it between the valve and the fiberglass. if you have a 2 hole strap laying around, attach to valve. put the face back on. good luck
