Hi,
I just replaced the capacitor on my Goodman CKL 36 outside unit (thank you gardner321 for your help!) because it was bloated and the compressor and fan wouldn't start.
Now both the compressor and fan are running and its cooling again but not as it was before this event. I've been running it all day but the house won't cool below 80 degrees. (I've got target temp set at 74). It used to cool to 74 within an hour.
Any ideas? Did the capacitor failure maybe mess something else up or is this just a coincidence? (It's been ~100 degrees every day here in Memphis for a while)
Thanks for any help or advice!

Are the copper lines outside changing temp?... the large line should be cold to the touch sweating w/ condensation, and the smaller line should be hot. Can you hear the compressor kicking on? I'm assuming that the outside fan comes on considering you've replaced the capacitor (seems like you've got an idea about what your looking for). But the compressor will make an unmistakeable sound. If the compressor is coming on and the lines are the proper temperature, there was a post on here about someone elses heating and cooling coming on at the same time possible case as well if a/c is working properly and the home just won't cool past a certain temp. I'll attempt to look for that post for you and post the link. Hopefully we'll get someone to help you out here. Gardener helped w/ my fix as well, can't thank him enough. I think they just need a bit more info on the situation.

How many hours has it been running?
What is the outside temp?
If your home was down long enough to become heat saturated, it may take several hours to cool down.
It is 4pm here in Sc and 100 in the shade.
Are you the same guy in Memphis that I helped the other day when it was over 100 in the home?
Soon as these other techies get in shower and eat, you will probably get several replies. Tom
Please let me know.

Man you guys know whats up!
It's true Gardner- it got so dern hot (yes I'm the guy in Memphis) that I couldn't cool the house the day I fixed it. As soon as the sun went down, it cooled to 75 pretty quickly, and today has been smooth and responsive.
Hoooray! :)
thanks a lot DIY guys!!!!
