I'm almost finished with the rough in and am about to drywall my walls in the kitchen. There are several places in the wall where there are no studs to screw the cabinets into. I was thinking of just installing 2x4s between the studs as nailers to have a place to screw the cabinets into. I'm sure this is a common problem, is there a better solution?

Since you are still framing, add studs everywhere you can for fastening cabinets, sinks, appliances, etc. Run wires for outlets, undercabinet lights, disposals, dishwasher, micro, etc., to the appropriate places. Finish drywall "ready for paint" where needed, otherwise just tape all joints.
