I have found some sites that say you can space stringers as far as 36" apart?? I assumed something like 16" was more appropriate? I know building codes are in play but what is typical stringer spacing for stairs?

Further, I am going to the ground from the deck and I wonder if I need to install concrete footings at the base of all of the stringers, and if not, what would you recommend for the base of the remaining stringers on a 5' span of stairs?
thanks

How far you space your stair stringers depends on what you'll be decking them with. Composite decking usually spans 16" max., so set the stringers at 16" max.

Pour a small pad at the bottom of the stairs where the stringers will land and attach them all to that using blocking between the stringers and Tapcon or similar screws to attach the blocking to the concrete.
