Hello,
First my thanks for all the help you folks offer on these forums. I've been a lurker for a long time and decided to sign-up now that I have my own questions.
I have an Autotrol 155 with 440 Control and have been happy with it, however I'm getting hard and soft water from it.
I have cleaned the Injector/screen and checked the brine tank and brine draw tube and everything seems ok. The brine level goes down with regular regeneration. I'm just getting hard water sometimes and not sure why.
I did remove my Brine Level Control (part #1F-19 or 100N108) and noticed that it looks damaged. The orange rubber(?) is broken and the adjustment dial is no longer connected to anything (turning the adjustment dial changes nothing). I assume its a sign of needing replacement? Can this be my problem with the hard water?
Any other tips?

Thanks,
Tim

I emailed Andrew Cross at Softener Parts.com with my questions and he says that the brass has corroded. Glad to hear that the part is defective and it turns out that I have in fact ordered the correct replacement part.

Follow up:
I was still getting hard and soft water after the new brine controller installed. I then rebuilt the valve and even then still had hard water.
I researched online and read about cleaning the resin with an iron removing additive. I had a bottle of Super Iron Out and added that to the brine tank (per label instructions) and now have very soft water.
I'm glad I was able to get the softener working right again, I do love soft water and knowing its good for my pipes and appliances is also a nice plus!

Yeah I was surprised at the lack of response I got. Oh well.
I only followed up so that my post would be complete and others who find this site via an Internet search and stumble on my story can know what I did to fix things.
If I had read about the Super Iron Out (http://www.summitbrands.com/brands/IronOut.aspx) treatment option I may have saved some valuable time and money. Oh well the old valve is all rebuilt and I have soft water.
