Hello,

Strange things happen...we just came back from a two weeks vacation and before we left I disconnected some stuff from the the wall. When we came back I discovered that an Ethernet switch is not working properly, and this morning I discovered that something is wrong with the dryer as well. I never knew that disconnecting from the power can cause problems....

In any event, the problem that I have with the dryer is - when I press the button to start it will not stay on. Everything seems to work fine (that is - it spins and it heats up), but it won't stay on unless I stand there and hold the button.

Any idea?

Thanks!

There is an air activated switch in the dryer that is wired in parallel with the start switch. If there is a restriction in the air path (filter and/or exhaust), the switch will not be activated. clean the filter and the dryer vent and see if that works.

The lint in the air path is flammable and could cause a fire if not cleaned regularly....

You might look in your parts book that came with your dryer. I just looked in mine and found none. Mine is a gas dryer. It has been many years since I worked on appliances and the mfg. may have done away with the air switch setup. They were a problem at the time.

There is definitely something in there that senses the drum turning because I just went inside and held the door switch in and if I got off the start switch too fast, the dryer would shut off just like yours is doing.

Another thing that might cause this is the door switch but this switch usually causes a no start condition. The usual thing is the dryer won't start unless you hold the door in. Try putting a pencil in the switch actuator hole and see if you can start that way.

Real common problem with that model. Here is a link to your machine, look under top and consul. part 6 and the motor relay (36)are the usual problems.

Look at the bottom of board and see if there is a burnt resistor there, Even if not the board could be bad. If board looks ood I would get relay first and try it. Have seen where t needs both parts. Keep us posted to see what you did
