Hello, new to group.
I am redoing my kitchen and want to put down Travertine on a 10x17 floor. I think I exceed L720 and have repositioned joist hangers to be level, but still have some undulating going on, up to 1/2".
There is 3/4" shiplap floorboards screwed down and 1/2" plywood screwed as well. My plan is to use a decoupler like Schluter DITRA once level.
For floor levelers, I am not sure about the best way to go.
The dry mix cement levelers require a metal lath which will required more leveler and would seem a little tricky mixing/poring, mixing/poring let alone any troweling. One clerk said this was overkill and suggested DAP Presto Patch in which I would have to trowel it and being a large area, I don't feel confident, even though it can be sanded.
Another clerk who used to do flooring never used lath and stays away from the cement based as they are brittle and suggested a leveler containing vinyl as it is flexible (he couldn't remember the brand). I can't find vinyl leveler on the web.
So my questions are:
Is something flexible the best way to go or will cement based work.
Is the Presto Patch good enough as well as being forgiving (can sand mistakes).
I lath overkill or will chicken wire work. Is either even needed?
Your opinion?
If I have to trowel, I am imagining using a level 2x4 or some sort of long trowel 2-3’? Better tools/technique?
Thanks,
Greg
