I have a 485 Mercruiser that starts, and then stalls when I let the key go. Thinking it may be a run circuit problem. Any ideas?

I bypassed the run circuit and it runs now-but only for 5 minutes. It's not charging. I just bought this boat, the owner had the same problem. I've replaced some corroded electrical parts so far, but there are so many wires! It's gotta be something with the coil. I'm gonna take the flywheel off and clean in behind there and ask the boat mechanics why it wouldn't be charging. It runs on a magneto system.
Has anyone had any similar problems??

Other than bad connections - wire and ignition switch, check the rectifier.
