I am finishing up my bar in the family room. Cabinets are in ( a nice rich brown color, front of bar paneled and stained to match the cabinets. The contractor just installed the granite counter tops and they look great.. However the bottom of the overhang counter top is very light in color and realy contrasts with the darker wood panels.

I was thinking on maybe painting the bottom of the counter a dark brown so it blends in better.

Any suggestion on which type of paint to use? Should I seal the underside prior to painting it? And will painting it effect it in any way?

Thanks for replying

If the bottom edge is finished anything like the top, I doubt any paint will bond to it. I'd wait and see if you get used to the color contrast - it might not be as noticable as you think.

how about some (i forgot exactly whats its called) shelf liner paper. you know, the stuff that has a pattern on it, and it goes in the cabinets. that should stick just fine, look good (enough), you can pull it off if you don't like it, and easy to install.

Granite fabricators use a product called "ager" (generic) to darken seams and help make them disappear. It basically just darkens the granite, and is very much like clear lacquer. In fact, clear lacquer either sprayed or brushed on would probably do the trick, and the color would be the same as the top, although not polished.Try it in an inconspicuous place first. Good luck
