I have a Kinetico 4040s water softener, which has been working very well. The brine tank is setup to use potassium chloride, but potassium costs have gone up.
I would like to switch the brine from potassium to sodium. I have the drain shelf that needs to go in, but what changes might be needed for salt metering? I don't have any technical documentation, can't find any on the kinetico website.

Potassium prices, in part to biodiesel plants, have skyrocketed. The use for softeners is often unnecessary.
Because you need slightly more potassium than salt, you will need to reduce the brine intake slightly. The brine tank has a float in it. You can slid it down on the rod to reduce the amount. There should be some marks on it. Move it to the next mark down. It should be about an inch or two.
I will look at a manual for a more accurate adjustment.
