I have a Schlange deadbolt lock on my front door. From the inside I can lock the door but on the outside, the key spins without locking the door. I spoke to a maintenance worker at work and he said it was simple to fix and not to call a locksmith. Is this a simple fix?

Yes.
Unless the tailpiece is broken and you require a new tailpiece, then call a locksmith. Most will carry parts.
The tailpiece in Schlage deadbolts coming out, is a common problem, but easy to fix.
If the key can be inserted and withdrawn without pulling the barrel (core) out, then you should have no problem.
