Hey, guys.

Just bought a new ceiling fan and I am attempting to install in family room. The existng ceiling outlet already has a wood support for a ceiling fan. When I try to screw in the fan pivot support the screw is blocked by a (I assume) misplaced nail in the wooden support. I don't have enough room to cut another hole in the wood without having to remove drywall. Any ideas? Should I get a drill bit capable of drilling through metal and simply drill through the nail? Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

How did you determine that, "The existng ceiling outlet already has a wood support for a ceiling fan"? And what exactly does that mean?

Can you access this box from above, in the attic?
