I'm having a deck installed next week and I don't know what the best thing to do for beneath the deck to keep the weeds and grass from growing. I've heard rocks are good but then some say that's just a waste of money. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Spray with Round-up soil sterilizer or similar. Cover with the heavy-duty weedblock fabric (the polyester type, not the thin fabric type), then put enough rock to keep that from blowing around, or as much as you like for looks.

You may still get some weeds from blown in seed, but if the deck keeps it very shady under there, shouldn't be that big a problem.

If the deck will be close to the ground, a vapor barrier will prolong the life of the deck. If it will be high enough to get good ventilation underneath, no vapor barrier is needed.

Can you see into that area when walking past? If so, you can also add hostas, ground cover or some other plantings that are low maintenance to the section you can see. More decorative. Otherwise, landscape fabric and large rocks would work great.

You can see underneath it. It's about 2' 6" high. Thank you all for the suggestions.
