Hi Everyone. I am a new home owner and am COMPLETELY clueless to some of the things in my new home. I would appreciate any help that anyone here can give me. My first issue is with a water softener. I know NOTHING about these. I have 2 units plus a salt tank in my basement hooked up to my well. I found the manual on one unit so hopefully this will make a little sense from my research. The first unit that water runs through from the well is an Autotrol 255/440i. The salt tank does not run to this unit. I plugged it in and it is making noise but the timer is not moving. I tried manually regenerating and it sounds like it starts but when I check it later, nothing has moved. The unit has a drain hooked up to it. The outlet line then runs to the next softener unit, of which I am unsure of the brand and model. This second unit IS hooked up to the salt tank. Everything seems to be working fine on this one. I set the timer and it is moving and I also did a manual regenereation and it seemed to work. The drain is constantly running which I am not sure if right and I am not exactly sure which softener is draining, perhaps both. I'm not sure if this is a common setup or if maybe I have some sort of conflict with these 2 softeners. Like I said, I am new and clueless and any sort of information would be great or even just something I would need to look for. I am probably going to have to have someone come out to look at it but I figured I would check here first. Thanks for reading!

After trying to determine what model the other softener is, I think I have found it. I believe it is a Fleck but I'm not positive on the model #. Probably a 1500 or 2500. I found a manual online and the picture looks very similar to what I have. I am at work so I cant check to be sure it is definitely one of the 2 but it is definitely similar. Any advice or additional information I may use to help me would be VERY GREATLY appreciated. Please!

I think you may need to ask an experienced plumber to come and check to make sure that the softener is properly hooked up.
The manual can help but if you are not sure how the system operates, it is better to call a professional for a second look. The last think you want to receive is a high water bill for a system that does not do it's job.
Congratulations and good luck on your new house.

Thanks showerob. I think that is what I am going to have to also. I took another good look at it last with the manuals handy and it is definitely running through some cycles but it is continually draining water.
