I recently bought a Bradford White 50 gal. hot water heater. On the electrical connections there are a red hot lead and a black hot lead. There is no white neutral but there is a green grounding lug. Is this normal for a 208 volt connection? I was told for the ground just hook up the white or bare to the green lug.

As far as I know there is only two hot lines and a ground for a 220V water heater.

Water heating is a thermodynamic process using an energy source to heat water above its initial temperature. Electric water heaters made with plastic tanks (e.g, polybutylene) are available. Designed with corrosion-free and corrosion-resistant materials, they can conceivably last the life of a dwelling. The only maintenance requirement would be to periodically clean sediments from the bottom of the tank and clean mineral scale off the heating elements.
