I have a raised garden which I am growing water melons, cucumbers, cantalopes and tomatos. The small ants are everywhere. I would guess thousands. Last night I picked 4 tomatos and had maybe 20 to 30 ants on me in that short time. There are two cucumbers which are maybe 1/4 gone and I must assume from ants.
What can I put on the vines to fight this ant attack?

I suspect your ants might be attracted to the honeydew (waste) from aphids. If there is any way you can check to see if your veggies have aphids, then treating for the aphids will get rid of the ants. You could use insecticidal soap sprayed every 5 to 7 days until the aphids are gone. You can even make your own.

I doubt the ants ate a hole in your veggies, but it could have been another animal or some type of injury that opened the fruit to them. In that case I would think your ants are the kind that like sweets. If that's so, I like the Terro gel bait. They eat it up like crazy. It can take up to a month to get rid of all the ants, but I found it's worth the effort. You could try and put a small saucer or lid from a plastic container in the garden that has some sugar water in it. If the ants are attracted to it then a sweet bait will be the one to use.
Different ants are attracted to different foods. Some like sweets while others prefer fats. If you can id which ants you have you'll know what bait to use.
