I am building an 8 X 12 shed. In general, does one do the sheathing before putting in the roof rafters? I've seen diagrams showing the full framing done (including the roof framing) beofre the sheathing was put on, but I don't know if they were doing this for instructional purposes only.

When I remodeled my shop in 2005, I did the wall framing and sheathing before starting on the roof. The sheathing provides additional lateral strength and helps square up the entire perimeter.

The most coefficient way is to frame, square and sheath the walls flat on floor of the shed and then raise them complete. Then put your roof on.

Also, you can paint/stain the sheathing before framing the walls to make it easier than doing it after.

Well, I'm a novice, so I didn't sheath the walls before putting them up. Fortunately, I managed to square them all through meticulous measurements, such that all 4 corners are plumb/vertical on all sides!

Sheathing the walls will stiffen them up and make it easier to install the roof framing members.
