I bought my home 2 years ago and maintained our pond with fountain with pleasure. We lasted thru Chicago winters without issues but last winter we had electrical issues. The pump stopped and the pond froze over, killing the koi that we loved. I felt so guilty but now feel better with the decision to remove the unsafe pond for my 1yr old and 4yr old kids. The eyesore will eventually affect the resale value of my home as well.

It's overwrought with beautiful lilies and a Japanese maple tree but also 3 ft high weeds that I can't keep up with.

My husband and I have done our best to dodge the mosquitoes and exotic dragonflies to pull out any nuisance plants. Does anyone know of a DIY process for removal of the pond, or a local Chicago company to help?? :wall:

If you want it gone. Pump the water out and fill it up dirt. Not knowing how big your pond is. If its a large pond, you could call a pool co. and they may know of someone getting a new pool and dosent want the dirt that comes from there pool. You may can get the dirt free, or real cheap.
