Hi,
I have recently had my water conditioner tuned up. It is a 1993 autotrol, metered. The service rep. states that the hardness of the water is at 14, the iron at .5, the TDS 500, and our family size is 2. We have well water, and it is getting pretty smelly. The water seems to be hard with calcium, and spotting on the shower fixtures. He recommended either a overhaul on our existing unit or replacement. The recommended product is a Clack Water Specialist 1". The price given for this unit is 1100.

We currently use a brita faucet filter for tap water drinking, and have a water filter on our refrigerated water dispenser. He recommended replacing our drinking water systems to a ERO 375 eco water system. No price quote given for this as I didn't show much interest.

Please advise! Thank you for your time.

I would agree that the ERO 375, or better yet the ERO 450E (both made by EcoWater), would be a good upgrade to the Brita.

You mention a smell in your water. What kind? You may need something besides a water softener to take care of the odor.

Clack has a good water softener valve, but I'm partial to the EcoWater valve as it provides high salt efficiency, reliability, and upflow regeneration. It probably will cost more than the Clack.

Thank you, Kirt. You are very helpful. Since we do not plan to stay in this home we have decided to go with the Clack Pro2. If we were staying we definitely would have upgraded to the Ecowater.
