My 30 Year old house has been painted numerous times in the livingroom but not for the past few years. The problem is you can see like a shadow image of the studs and the drywall screws. Should I primer and repaint or will just repainting fix it?Have I just left the paint on to long ? Why does it do that?

There are a couple of things that could cause this. Are the walls still flat? If the drywall has bowed any, it will reflect light differently at the studs. Also a house with poor insulation or missing/ineffective vapor barrier will cause this to happen.
If the walls aren't flat - a fresh coat of paint won't help much. Otherwise paint will make the issue disappear.

Have you started burning candles the past few years or been using a wood-burning stove/fireplace? When was the last time the furnace was cleaned?
These can create just enough soot to cause the shadowing.
