I need to attach a garden hose hanger to the brick on the outside of the house. I plan to use plastic anchors. My question is, Do I put the screws in the bricks or can I put them in the mortar?

Put them in the mortar. You could crack the brick while drilling or tightening the screws. Also easier to patch later if its removed.

Thanks for the reply. One other question, This hose hanger has 6 screw holes and 4 land in the mortar and 2 in the bricks. Could I take a treated 2 by and attach that to the wall with a couple screws and then screw the hanger onto the board?

I would sink a 4x4 post and attach the hose hanger to it

Scotty, I have a hose hanger mounted as you suggested with 2 2x4's fastened to the mortar joints in the brick. It has worked very well for many years. The 2x4's are treated. Good luck with your project.

Put a few drops of caulking in the hole that you drilled before you put the anchor and screw in.
