Hi-

About two years ago we had the capacitor replaced on our Trane unit. Yesterday my husband said the unit was making a hissing noise and seemed hot to touch, also the lines did not feel cool. He shut the air conditioner off. Today I turned it on and it seemed to run okay but no cold air is coming out. Could it be the capacitor or another problem.

If there is no cold air then the unit is not operating correctly. The hissing sound could have been from a massive refrigerant leak. I think you need a technician to check things out.

Sounds like the internal pressure relief is open inside the compressor. This would be due to high head pressures, probably due to condenser coil clogging and high ambient temps. Clean the condenser coil very well. Let the unit cool for a few hours - Turn it on and see if the hissing stops - If it does, it just may work again.
