I am redecorating my 3 year old daughters small bedroom in a princess theme. One wall of her room is a floor to ceiling, wall to wall, wood cabinet and shelving unit. It has cabinets and drawers on either side and a desk area with shelves in the middle. I would rather not remove the unit but would like to conceal it. Any suggestions on how to make it fit into the room theme, blend into the room or cover it?

conceal it? cover it? good heavens, most people would kill for a big built-in storage unit like that! plus a built-in desk with shelves! wow! the older she gets, and the more toys & books & pictures & awards she accumulates, the more appreciative you'll be! and with it being a small room, those cabinets & drawers eliminate the need for additional furniture items like dressers, that would make the room even more cramped.
i don't see where the unit itself is a problem with the princess theme, or any theme. maybe it's stained wood now, and you don't like the looks of it? if that's the case, then just paint it! you can tone it down by painting it the same color as the walls, or you can make it into an attractive accent by painting it a fun color, or even by painting the back walls of the shelves in accent colors.
maybe the construction of it is on the chinsey (sp?) side? maybe it needs to be made nicer with additional crown mouldings & trims?
you could soften it by using some fabric accents. for example, skirt the open area under the desk, for more of a vanity look, instead of a desk.
but all in all, you've got yourself a big asset there. make the most of it!
