I have a RUUD 3 ton central AC. Yes it's old, about 12 years. Today, the blower was on blowing warm air. Went to the unit outside and the fan motor was not working nor the compressor. The fan motor was extramely hot though and smelled burnt. So I went out and replaced the motor. The motor works great now! However, when I first turned it on the compressor, it was making strange noises and then finally quit working. All the while the new fan worked great. Does this sound like a compressor gone bad?

It could be! at 12 years old Id replace all of it.
