Hi....First time poster and complete Home Improvement novice here...

We've got a bad foundation, no question about it. 15 years ago, when we had some degree of disposable income, we had a crew dig around the outer perimeter of our concrete slab home and do some "cable" or "pier" work or something and all was fair to middling for a short period of time but now we tend to re-position door striker plates twice a year because of shifting and there are numerous cracks in the sheetrock/ceiling. Our current situation is that we've got some money to patch/plaster/paint surfaces in our house but nowhere enough money likely in this lifetime or any other to do any foundation work. Is there any way that we could make these types of interim repairs work under any circumstances or is it written in stone (pardon the pun) that the foundation will have to be fixed or else all other work is a waste?

Thanks...

Welcome to the forums!

It probably depends on which side of the stone you read :D

While it's best to fix the foundation first, you can repair the walls now. Any further movement of the foundation will likely cause some [maybe all] the repairs to fail - and maybe repairs in areas not currently damaged.

As long as you diy, repairing drywall/plaster and painting are realitively cheap so there isn't really a good reason to wait a long time to do the wall/ceiling repairs.
