I am a poor college student with an old couch that was given to me. The thing is hideous to say the least, but extremely comfortable. I am very handy, and pretty thrifty, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about turning my old couch into a new couch using mostly the cushions and giving it a more contemporary look with minimal cost. I'm thinking I would use wood mostly for the rebuilding of the frame, and then simply re-rap the old cushions in some new fabric...either way any ideas and links to some sites would be more than greatly appreciated!

Maybe someone else can help with the wood frame, but you might consider just buying a slipcover for it. They come in stretch style now with separate cushion covers to make it easier to put on and keep it neat looking. Check out SUREFIT (http://www.surefit.net/)
for the different styles or to buy. You can also buy them in a variety of stores, such as Kohl's, Target, Ross, etc.
