Air Conditioning - A/C fan not working, No cold air

I have a Goodman AC Unit, 2 Ton 13 Seer, consisting of a ckt 24-1 Condensing Unit and a A-32 Air Handler system with a AO Smith fan motor #F48C77A76, Bristol Compressor H26B18QCBCA. No cold air, fan not turning and very hot, which tells me its getting power. Compressor runs. Found an oil drip on top of compressor from fan motor. Fan spins freely by hand. Breaker initially tripped when all this started. Checked outside fuses which are good. Cleaned filters. Changed batteries in indoor thermostat, still not working.

Also, we do have 2 units 1 cools 1 side of the house the other does the other side. Will it hurt to keep 1 running while the other is down.

sounds like a bad motor, i see no reason to not run the other unit

Hows the capacitor connected to the fan? Bulged or leaking? Does the fan run if you give it a little push when power is applied?

The fluid drip does sound like a bad motor, but do the "bump start" test. If it starts and runs, Its more likely the cap.

Your interior air is blowing right? Just not cold?

I checked the capacitor and the top is bulging - I guess I will start by replacing that and then move onto the fan motor if that doesn't work. My husband is at work, so I'm doing this myself. I will let you know how I make out.

Don't forget to discharge the cap before you go touching wires!

I picked up a new capacitor this morning and replaced it. Turned on unit and fan is spinning. Thank god.

Glad its working....but don't let that motor get out of hand. It still could be on it's way out.
