Hi- I have some cracks and such that need patching and new paint too. What do I need to do to get new mud to stick in the joint? Do I need to sand off the paint first, down to plaster? Will regular drywall mud stick to painted walls? Thanks in advance--:)

Joint compound and spackling will both adhere to paint. If the paint has a gloss - sand it first.
