Its a friends john deer riding mower it turns over like a car with bad timeing it backfires out the muffler it tries to run the spark looks scattered when you watch the plug turning it over its a new plug it started running bad last year what should I check ?

i would suspect either the carb is bad or the flywheel key is sheared.
