Hi,

I'm having a problem with our whole house water filtration system. I installed the system nearly three years ago, consisting of a Sears 1 ft3 iron filter followed by a 1 ft3 softener followed by a large carbon filter. The iron filter recharges using potassium perm., and I run Morton's iron specific salt in the softener. Both units recharge every evening. I don't have the numbers, but the iron concentration in the water is very high before filtration.

All was running well for a while. I would clean out the venturi valves in both units about once every 6 months. The valves are usually not clogged, but are coated with a fine rust silt. On a few instances I noticed an increase in iron in the drinking water and would use that as a notice to change the carbon filter; roughly every 8 - 10 months.

A few weeks ago the iron increased again, and since I was still using the original pot. perm. on the iron filter ( about two years of use, with daily recharging) I decided to change that. I ordered it through sears and quickly and easily changed the pot. perm. bottle. Now the iron is making it's way through the filter system more so than ever before.... It can be easily tasted and smelled in the water, and it is starting to leave deposits again.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Anthony
