I am not too a/c savy so I dont know the technical terms. My outside unit stops running sometimes but the unit in the attic keeps going, thus the house starts to warm up because theres no cool air. I turn off everything from the thermostat and then turn it back on and both units then turn on. I have to do this at least once a day.

What is preventing the outside unit from kicking on? the fuses maybe?

The outdoor unit (condensing unit) shutting down can be caused by any number of things. If it comes back on as soon as you turn the t-stat back on, I would suspect the problem to be either in the air handler (indoors) or the contactor located in the condensing unit.
