My swamp cooler motor shuts down after 2-4 hours. I just replaced the pulley on the motor, replaced the belt, and replaced the bearings on the non-pulley side. Prior to that the cooler had been making a terrible racket and I finally had determined that the pulley was the culprit (after I had replaced the bearings and belt :) ). So it sounds much better, but now shuts off, whereas it wasn't shutting off before. Any ideas?

Temp overload sensor in the windings is opening, due to heating due to motor overload?
Intermittent winding open circuit, opens on temp or vibration?

Thanks. I think I solved it and the motor was burning out. I loosened the belt, and checked it again later and it hummed, but didn't spin.
