Irish...give the Pro's some time. Most have real jobs as well. You'll get a reply normally w/in a few hours. Can't expect instant responses.

The WaterBoss uses a packed bed. In other words, there is no freeboard or a body of water that is above the resin bed.
The freeboard is used during regeneration (especially) for softeners that are fighting iron. Do you have iron in your source water? The freeboard allows the resins to rise and reconstitute thus cleaning out the iron residue. Without the freeboard, the resins get fouled and become thick and slow water pressure. Following me there?
I have tried taking apart WaterBosses and it is quite difficult for me. There is a lot of equipment packed into the cabinet.
Also, you need fine-mesh resin and not standard-mesh resins. If you get the wrong type, it will not work at your present settings.
You may have to consider getting a new (maybe different) system.

Going cheap can be very costly.
Does you unit look like these? Here a guy had four softeners (and two water heaters) in 12 years. Rebuilding these are very difficult. The valve CAN come off, but once you can manage take it out of the housing and get the valve off, you find it very difficult to re-packed the bed.

What are your water test results? I wouldn't make any recommendation without this information. There are excellent softeners that will fit in your location with lots of room to spare.
