Should a deep cycle battery on a boat be recharged after each use no matter how much it has been used??

Deep cycle batteries work best (so I understand) when they are deeply discharged prior to recharging. Recharging too frequently causes them to lose their life quicker. Again, this is what I've read/learned over the years - and, might not be applicable with today's technology. I would google some battery manufacturers for their recommendations in this day and age.
