I have a 36 inch RCA tv (model # 36V430T) that I bought new in 2005 that I am having trouble with . My TV will work at times fine, then there is times I turn it on and it is great for but then the screen goes black and loses picture, sometimes I also lose the sound, but the green light for power stays on. I turn the power off and back on immediately and it might work great for 30 seconds or for days, but eventually it goes back to working intermittently. Any ideas??
Thanks Mike

First thing is to rule out the source (cable, dish, etc.). When it loses picture can you call up a menu with the remote? If so it could be the cable box or dish receiver.

If it turns out to be the TV it's probably a heat-related issue. One of the components is heating up and the TV is protecting itself by shutting off. It could also be a cold solder joint that loses its connectivity as it heats up.

Pull the back off it and see if dust has accumulated on the boards(s). Don't touch anything. Even an unplugged TV can hold high voltages for quite some time. Read HotinOKC's Sticky Thread (http://forum.doityourself.com/showthread.php?t=309110) about TV safety.

Got lots of dust? Get a new wooden paint brush. Cover its metal parts with electrical tape. Hold it by the wood handle and use it to loosen the dust as you vacuum it away with the upholstery attachment. Be gentle, and don't touch the vacuum to the parts.
