Im basically building some "boxes" to stack on top of each other for an entertainment cabinet. Im new at finding the materials for myself, im usually working for a contractor to where the material is right there.
First time working for myself and i could use some help on a cheaper but Similar lookalike for some 2x12 Douglas fur. I have go plane down, route, gluelam two 2x12's into 20-22" of shelving boxes. Someone give me some advice please

Welcome to the forums! You lost me. You are building "boxes", is that correct? 2 - 2x12's will hold a truck, are you sure it isn't overkill?? And I didn't understand why you were planing them down, then gluing them into a beam to make a box. Describe what your plans are so we can get into this with you. But just for info, Yellow pine is used here in the South, but may be too heavy for what you want.

Thank you for the info.
Basically im building a big cabinet for an entertainment system, TV, vcr's, dvd players, dvd's speakers.
Personally i would love to just build it outa ply, and face everything with clear Douglas fur strips. Though my clients dont want it to be faced, they want a bulky yet modern look of different dimensioned "boxes" 5-10 of them depending on the dimensions they want. They want it out of a wood that looks simaler to clear Douglas fur, but would not like to spend as much. Few knots here and there doesnt bother them nor me.
Just having a hard time finding some large lumber that i can do this with at a costly mannor..
Im almost thinking of just using some above standard framing Douglas fur material. But im afraid of it cracking and warping over time. What do you think?

The dimension lumber may have a tendency to warp a little once it gets to its final destination. In order to get a depth that will hold a tv, vcr, dvd, etc. you will have to biscuit two or more of the 2x12's. Not sure where you live, but if you are near or at Denver or surrounding areas, they carry clear redwood in large sizes at reasonable prices. I visit my daughter there and just go to HD to drool.
