Does anyone have any ideas on modern alternatives to vertical blinds that I can use for my sliding glass door? All I can come up w/ are curtains.

Lately I have been intrigued with shutters for sliding glass doors. I live in a rental, so my intrigue will remain just that

There are the bi-fold, the be-pass, and the T-fold. Here's an interactive site where you can select different colors and styles. http://www.shutterclassic.com/sgd_tpost.html

any shade in the world cab go on a sliding door if you use 2 and mount them above the door with a valance or conrnice board..

The shutters are great for doors but expensive..

Both hunter douglas and Graber make a pleated style shade that opens sideways..

The important thing to remember is that a sliding door is a functioning item. It seems almost silly to say it but I have seen so many homeowners put up shades themselves only to realize that either the door won't operate properly or that they will have to duck under the shade to go in and out of the door. Verticals are a bit dated, there are so many more attractive options now. You can get a pleated shade which is oriented vertically, Hunter Douglas makes one called a Vertiglide. They are sleek and beautiful, come in a variety of fabrics from sheer to opaque, are energy efficient and can even be combined with two fabrics on one shade for versatility between opacity and sheerness.

Do a search for Panel Track.

Also note that if you choose curtains, Vertiglide, or Panel Track, you will be losing the ability to just rotate the blinds open to gain good light or visibilty without having to pull them back to the side.

If you would like to retain that feature, but not stay with a basic traditional vertical, then look at HunterDouglas Luminette(or Park Lane), Comfortex Harmony, or an ADO wrap sheer.

don't forget the Skyline too.. Nice take on panel tracks, the panels stack 1 behind the other no matter how many panels you use. All this with a slim 2 panel track no matter the size, unlike the ugly 8'' wide panel tracks of the past..
