Hello. all.
I had some reno work done a few months ago, and the wood work all around my windows replaced. Dry rot repaired, and preprimed hardiplank siding installed.
Last week they came and painted the wood trim, using a marine enamel paint. The flunky they had doing the work then proceed to paint the siding with the same product.
I informed the contractor that the paint is the wrong kind for the siding, and that the paint needs to be removed from the siding, as it will peel.
He says that he will strip it with paint stripper...
My question is : Will the paint stripper react with the hardiplank siding? Is this asking for trouble? We feel that it wont, and that the siding will need to be replaced.
I would appreciate any responce from people that know the products.

I've never tried to strip any coating off of hardi board siding.
How much siding was painted with the oil base paint?
I would think sanding the enamel well and then coating it with an oil base primer would be the best fix other than replacing the siding. You might ask the contractor for an extended warranty to cover this area.
