Hi All,
I've placed a piece of drywall over a hole in the ceiling. Currently the wall has blowndown texture. I'm in the process in blending this in. Just curious if I would have to sand down the neighboring texture area before putting in the joint compound.
Also curious the best methods are just to get this blend to match the best. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!
I'm not sure I know what a 'blowndown texture' is. Is it popcorn?
You need to remove enough surrounding texture so you can tape and mud. You don't need to remove any more than is necessary. Scraping is probably eaiser than sanding.
How big is the patch piece?

Thanks, this is an awesome website :)
Blowndown Texture looks similar to that of orange peel. The size is about 1.5ft by 1.5ft. The problem looks like leveling with the original, as seen with other jobs in my office area. The second issue is just matching the texture boundaries once we get our coats in.

Orange peel can be applied by spraying thinned down joint compound with a hopper gun. It also comes in aersol cans. Small repairs can be textured using a sponge to apply thinned down j/c although your repair would be a tad large to texture with a sponge.
If the patch is recessed from the surronding drywall you can build it up withj/c. If it is level, you need to spread the j/c out further to make it blend.
