Hello,

Today I installed a cable DVR, DVD, CD changer, TV, and receiver.

I have all of the video components DVR, DVD, going to the TV succesfully. However I am having difficulty with the audio portion.

I have the CD changer correctly playing through the receiver to the speakers. However, every time I attempt to connect a audio out from the TV to the receiver I get a loud humming noise (disturbence) regardless of what audio in channel I use on the reciever?

Any thoughts on how I can get audio through the receiver from the DVR, DVD, etc.?

Thanks,

Joey

What type of receiver are you using? What type of connections? HDMI, component, etc.

I would connect both DVR and DVD directly to the audio receiver. If the receiver has a Toslink and/or coaxial digital spigot, use it to connect to the DVD.

Still, you should be able to connect the TV to the receiver without causing a hum. Are you connecting to the Line/Variable Audio Outs of the TV? You can't connect to the external speaker outputs (if the TV has 'em).

Are you sure you're using shielded RCA cables -- not speaker cables -- to connect the TV? Pull the known-good cables off the CD and stick them into the TV. If the hum's no longer there, you have bad cables.

AC power for all audio and video components that are connected to the system should come from the same plug strip or you can create a "ground loop" that will cause the hum.

Another test is to plug it all in so it hums and disconnect the cable. Sometimes the TV will ground through the cable. That's a whole 'nother issue.
