My sister had a deck put in last year-the material is something called Diamond Decking. It looks like a teak type of wood and it was stained last year but the main part of the deck looks very weathered and has faded. The product used to stain it initially was Cabot Australian Timber oil. What would be the best way to redo the deck and will it have to be done every year? Thanks for all of your input.

I'm not familiar with 'diamond decking' but generally you need to clean the deck before recoating. The amount of weather a deck recieves has a lot to do with the life of the coating. Dark stains will noticably fade sooner than the lighter colors. If water beads up on the deck - it is still protected.

Quality coatings always preform better than the cheaper ones but Cabot's coatings are among the better ones. It is possible not enough oil was applied the first time although it isn't uncommon for decks with a lot of exposure to need recoating every 2-3 yrs.

if it is a wood like teak, it may be that the wood needs little to no products applied but may not look as you like. Some very oily woods resist stain and sealers and really do not need them for protection. unfortunately this usually means that they only look good when wet.
