I visited the local "home improvement" center and they were unable to help me regarding materials needed to build a headboard for our king size bed.

Following is what I need help with:

1. What lumber to purchase
2. How to reinforce to keep from buckeling
3. How do I attach it to the bed frame

Thank you!

The cheapest material that will take a finish well would be White pine or Aspen. The cheapest hardwood is Poplar but you can get some green and purple coloring in it.

Some bed rails have flat brackets at the end to attatch to the headboard. If yours does not you can look for bed hardware on the internet, check out Woodcraft and Rockler.

If you are using dry material warping should not be a problem as long as you finish it properly.

Are you going to upholster it? If so, you can use 3/4" plywood.
