Got an oil leak on the oil cooler line that runs from the passenger side of the radiator to the other side running in front of the radiator. The line is 1/2 inch OD. It has a pinhole leak where it rubbed the fan shroud. Since the pipe is not available I am planning on cutting the line and using hose with hose clamps. The line appears to be aluminum. Since this is engine oil it needs to hold the oil pressure and a failure could run the engine out of oil very quickly. My question is will the hose clamps hold the pressure of about 60 pounds? Or any other ideas for a fix.

If it happens to be steel (instead of aluminum - check it with a magnet) = have it brazed.

If it is aluminum, I would cut and use a flared fitting in the gap. The hose clamp configuration may or may not hold - that would be my third choice.

The fastest way to repair is get the flare set and flare it.

This been happend to me before few time they do have flare set that can fit 1/2 inch line and get a peice of old rubber hose and warp it around so it will prevent anymore damage to it.

otherwise a hydrallic shop can make a new fitting and bypass the whole alum pipe oh by the way when the engine is cold expect the 6.2 oil pressure hit about 75 ~ 85 psi when it is cold.

Merci,Marc

Well I made a temporary fix using Tygon tubing that is vinyl and good to 200 pounds. Used two clamps on each side. seems to be holding well but I am a little worried and will watch it. I will look around and see if someone can make me a new one. Guess it could be copper since that's what the radiator is. Tried to silver solder it with propane torch but it was not hot enough. Bought a maps gas and blew through the aluminum real fast. That is what doityourself is all about, try it and learn.
