My basement currently has 3/4" real wood paneling on all walls. I want to take off the wood and replace with drywall. The walls underneath the wood paneling are concrete. There appear to be horizontally hung wood strips into which nails were driven to secure the wood paneling.

When I hang the drywall, can I use the horizontal wood strips or do I have to install vertical strips.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!

I assume the furring strips where installed horizontally to accomadate the wood. I wouldn't think there would be a problem with reusing them - they are PT, right?

Why not install drywall over the wood? It would be a lot less work:D
