I have had the water tested by 3 companies - kinetico, culligan and a local, as well as a laboratory.
local said no iron, culligan said .8, kinetico said .6, lab said .596.
ph: 7.4
TDS (all agreed) between 120 and 130.
some hydrogen sulfides (occasional smell)
7-8 grains hardness
This is not a new well, maybe 10-15 years old, but no one has ever lived there. We are moving soon into the house we've built, and I don't want to ruin clothes, new pipes, etc. But, I don't have any figures on water usage. 2 people will be living there, with 2 more occasionally (in-laws, when they're around), as well as pets.
Culligan gave a price of 3795 for an iron and sulfide remover and softener.
Local didn't want to do it (don't know why)
Kinetico gave price of $5800 (includes drinking water ro undersink unit).
Personally, because of various health issues, I'm not excited about the salt end of things. Is 8 grains of hardness enough that I'll have build-up? Could I just use an iron/sulfur filter?
Did Kinetico see a nice house and jack up the price? I can't believe that figure, but it's the system I wanted, until I heard the price. Can anyone tell me if that's the going rate?
Thanks very much, sorry if there's not enough info or stupid questions.

Where are you located. Those prices are higher than I have heard, much higher.
First of all, buying asystem to remove iron is a waste. I softener will handle very well!
What model Kinetico was offered. I suppose the drinking water system was a K5, right? Super RO, like no others out there.
The local guy didn't explain why he wouldn't make an offer. Very strange?
Let me ask you this, was are the main differences between Kinetico and Culligan products, service, technology and warranties?

Kinetico guy gave me nothing in writing. Did not tell me a model number.
I live in upstate new york (binghamton area). Just called their office, and they were puzzled as to why he didn't get me a written proposal.
Just found out local guy is getting ready to retire. I don't think he wants to get involved with a new system.

With regard to the Kinetico, I really liked the 10 year warranty (he did tell me that), the demand initiated regeneration, and the twin tanks. If the salt usage he told me was true (i.e., much less than the competitors'), I liked that as well.
Single tank, timer, and using hard water to regenerate all seem to weigh against the Culligan system.

Ok, it's a Mach 2060s, with the K5. (When I asked for something in writing, he seemed offended. Oh well.) And it's $5995. The 2060s by itself is $3997.
This company, which has been in the area for over a hundred years, is very well known for being way overpriced, but they're the only ones who carry the Kinetico.

Each company has its way of conducting business the way it sees fit. Unfortunately, sometimes.
I left you a private message. Hope you can find a great way to improve your water.
