Putting on addition and I have a wall that I need to fur out to match existing -which has lath board/plaster and then drywall on top. I need 1/2". Should I just cut some drywall strips and put that up and then my drywall sheets over top or do I need to use wood to fur out the 1/2"? If so, use plywood?

Stripping with sheetrock may not last as it will crush over time in small pieces like that. I would opt for the plywood, since you can buy it in 1/2" (almost) pieces. Beats planing down 3/4" wood strips.

I'd use plywood.
