My Water Heater makes a booming sound when my automatic sprinkler zones kick in....Any ideas? Water temps etc are fine. The sound is a little nerve racking...

I think I can help you, I only ran into a problem like this once before and I was able to solve it with relative ease.
Stop using the automatic sprinklers...

OK, seriously now,
What is your water pressure to the house? I would get a test gauge (sold at big box stores, about $10.). Then get the pressure reading. Leave the gauge on overnight and don't forget to set the manual needle to 0 psi. Then check in the morning and let me know what the highest pressure is. It sounds to me like it is a pressure problem. When you use your sprinklers, you probably have a high volume going out to them. This could cause a negative pressure in the tank. Do you know if you have a vacuum breaker on you water heater?
Is the water heater gas or electric?
Reply ASAP...
ps I couldn't help myself.................:)
