We have an almost vertical hillside in our backyard about 20 feet wide with the tallest side being about 7 feet tapering down to about 4 feet tall. Looking for a neat way to utilize this feature. Advice??

think about a waterfall, or a retaining wall useing the interlocking concrete units sold for that purpose. for the retaining wall I would only go up about 2 feet then step almost level a couple feet before going up again and useing that space to grow flowers or strawberries or ground cover. depending on your preference and desires.

are you going to cowboy up or just lay there and bleed?

If you could post pictures at www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) or other photo site and links here, it would generate more input and provide a better perspective of your landscape challenge.

If the hill presents drainage problems, then these need to be addressed as well. If building a retaining wall, the wall is as good as the drainage provided behind it as well as the weep holes provided.

Many are successful with terracing such hillsides and landscaping accordingly. Others plant ground covers. With photos, more specific recommendations can be made.

How about a creek with a small pond and waterfall at the bottom?
