Hi, I have an Aluminum door with a 35" by 21" window with etching. I like the door and the window looks real nice from outside but I dont like people being able to see inside. I was told I cannot screw any type of curtain onto the door. Does anyone know anything to cover this window up while still looking nice? Any suggestions wouldl be appreciated. I been banging my brain trying to figure something out. :wall: Right now there is a sheet of wrapping paper taped to the door.

I am not aware of any type of door that can not have curtain rods installed, with screws or adhesive hangers. So habg those curtains. Sticking something on the glass, especially a south facing door can cause problems with the glass.

I read the post, looked at Bill's reply, which is (as usual) right on, clicked off, and my brain got its second jolt of caffeine. Are you talking about an aluminum storm door? I have never seen an aluminum entrance door. If it is a storm door, you can drill it, but be careful. If your door is equipped with one of those roll up screens, don't drill in the top rail, nor too closely on the side stiles, as the screen and it's mechanism is located there. Go outboard of that area to drill, or use 3M adhesive sticky hooks.

sorry for the confusion. My neighbor told me it was an aluminum door but my builder actually clarified and said it was a steel door. He said it is possible but I would need to drill a hole first for the screws that the rod uses. Anyone else have experience on this? Thanks Bill and Chandler for the posts.

If you just want to screen the window, or diffuse the light a bit, they make magnetic rods that you can attach to the door. They work pretty well, but not if you want to hang a tapestry equivalent. Any home center or home decor dept should have them.

I have never come across a metal entry door made in the last 30 years that couldn't be drilled through.. Unless that thing has 4 massive hinges to support its 200 pounds and your sure it could stop bullets, we should be able to drill through it just fine..
you will need
a drill
3/4'' long #6 hex head self drilling screws
1/4'' hex drive bit to fit those screws
with this bit in a drill and these screws it should go through that door just fine..
If by some crazy reason it doesn't you will need a quality steel drill bit at the appropriate diameter and self taping screws to set them.. The exact bit you would need and diameter screw i would have to get back to you.. I always forget
Or magnetic rods, but these will never give you the tension you want if your doing a stretch (R.T.B) on the window

Translucent window film is available. They are applied to glass with soapy water solution.
