I am trying to repair a hole in a rabbit hutch. Years ago I removed a section of the wire (chicken wire?) so I could place a tunnel between two rabbit hutches.

Now I want to sell one and need to patch the hole. I found a wire that matches but either the solder I am using with my ColdHeat solder tool is too thick or I've been "infommercialed".

Any suggestions on what type of solder I should be using?

If the Coldheat is what I think it is, it is way too small for this type of job. Get a soldering gun or iron with at least a 100watt rating and use acid core solder. Clean and tin both pieces before soldering together.

why wouldn't you just replace the chicken wire on that one side ?

much cleaner and I would think easier

I had a feeling the Coldheat was too light duty. I hadn't thought of replacing the entire section, this would be easier and look better in the end.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I break enough stuff around the house to get use out of the Coldheat somewhere:D

I agree that the Cold Heat soldering iron is not much good for anything.
It would also be a good idea to replace the whole side.

You can repair the hole without soldering if you wanted to.

Cut a patch out of chicken wire larger than the hole then clip the outer edge to make strands.
This can then be woven into the mesh around the hole.

You must have been doing well using chicken wire for your rabbits as they are capable of chewing through it if they wanted to.

Cut a new piece to size, stapled it to the hutch and looks good as new.

BTW - these rabbits aren't smart enough to chew through anything but lettuce and carrots.
